Sathya Sai Baba still critical

The condition of spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba deteriorated further on Thursday with doctors saying that the functioning of his organs was erratic and he was very critical.

The godman was very critical as his heart became quite week due to intermittent episodes of low blood pressure, said Dr A N Safaya, director of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Sciences, where he is undergoing treatment since March 28.

The parameters of the functioning of the various organs of the body are also erratic and every attempt is being made to keep them in the normal limits by the administration of appropriate drugs," a health bulletin issued here in the night said.

One successful cycle of low haemodialysis was conducted to assist the kidney functioning. Doctors are continuing vigorous efforts to make the vital organs recommence their function, the bulletin said.

Meanwhile, in view of Sai Baba's deteriorating health, Andhra Pradesh Police have been deployed additional forces here to maintain law and order.

86-year-old Sathya Sai Baba was hospitalised on March 28 following problems related to heart and respiration.

Reports also claimed that tight security arrangements have been made at the airport in Puttaparthi apart from Prasanthi Nilayam, the residence of Baba, and Satya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences.

Prohibitory orders were clamped here as thousands of devotees started descending on the town with the condition of the Baba deteriorating.

More than 2,000 police officers and men have been deployed here.
